Mr. Tom Foster grew up in Wildwood, Illinois. He received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, and a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies Performance from Eastern Illinois University. He has taught music in public and private schools for past 19 years. Mr. Foster’s primary instrument is trumpet, though he can play many others. He hopes to learn guitar at some point.
Mr. Foster believes that participating in band teaches a student the value of hard work, achievement, and provides a great social outlet. Learning to play an instrument is a higher thinking skill. It takes a great deal of concentration to play an instrument and to learn how to communicate emotion through it. It is a great life skill that one can have forever.
The highlight of Mr. Foster’s performing career came when he sat in with world-renown trumpet player Clark Terry. In his leisure time, he enjoys spending time with his family and working on various projects around the house.
