Rober Slater's Bio

Mr. Slater grew up in Cary, Illinois and began playing trumpet in 5th grade. In addition to being in various music ensembles at Cary Grove High School, he was also a pitcher on the baseball team. Mr. Slater was a scholarship athlete in baseball at McHenry County College, and graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in Music Education.

Mr. Slater is a frequent performer in the Chicago area in various rock groups, jazz bands, as well as numerous classical settings. He has played with Manhattan Transfer, Jon Faddis, Alan Held, John Cooper; and has recently opened for the Gin Blossoms, Three Dog Night, and David Cassidy.

Mr. Slater’s favorite musicians range widely. His favorites are: trumpet greats Maynard Ferguson and Maurice Andre, the rock band Chicago, the iconic Neil Diamond, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Outside of the music classroom Mr. Slater is a passionate Cubs fan, but also enjoys watching and studying the umpires just as much as cheering for the Cubs.
