Honors Band
Music Education Services 2020 Honors Band

Information

Honors Band will be held on a Saturday April 18, 2020.

Honors Band is an annual event hosted by Music Education Services, bringing students together to play challenging music. Two bands will be performing, a Symphonic Honors Band and a Concert Honors Band. As the name implies, earning placement in the Symphonic Honors Band or being selected by your band director to participate in the Concert Honors Band is truly an honor! Students will be chosen through an audition process for the Symphonic Honors Band. The audition requirements and information are listed below for those students who wish to audition. The Concert Band students are chosen by their director through a selection process. Selected students will be notified by their director in March. All students selected will participate in a full day event with various conductors, sectionals, and a final concert.

Selected students for both bands will receive information about additional rehearsals. It is imperative that students begin working on the music in their own time, so they are well prepared for rehearsal. The festival day will include sectionals, clinics, full band rehearsals and a final concert @ 3:30pm. It will be the most playing these children have ever done in one day. At the same time, it will be the largest group and the most rewarding day of music for all who participate. Honors Band will give students the idea of what it is like to be in a high school band program.

We do require emergency contact information for all participants. Please ask your band director if you do not receive one with your acceptance letter.

The final concert begins at 3:30 p.m., and should last about an hour. Your child may come dressed casually, but make sure they bring good dress clothes to change into before the concert.

This year the festival is being held at:

Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church
149 West Brush Hill Road
Elmhurst, IL 60126

We are excited about our tenth year at this venue for our concert. Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church has a beautiful performance space and the building is laid out well to accommodate the sectional classes throughout the day. Directions are included below. I should note that the parking lot at the church only has two hundred parking spaces but when that lot is full there is additional parking at the gravel lot adjacent to the church lot.

For lunch, we will be serving pizza for $3.00. Snacks, water and pop will also be available for $1.00 each. Please make sure your child brings some money or his or her own lunch. A professional video company will be recording the performance, and DVDs can be ordered on the day of the festival.

All of our teachers are busily preparing the children for what promises to be a great day. Family members and guests are welcome to the concert and we hope that many of you can attend. If you should have any questions, please feel free to call our office, or contact your band director.

Sincerely,

Steven A. Nierman
